Digitalisation: The path to an age of leisure or slavery?

10.06.2025

What domestic helpers were in the 1950s, digitalisation is today. Yes, things are much easier, much faster, much cheaper, and they can be done online! If it weren't for one small difference: The many machines, from washing machines to electric toothbrushes, do not control us; we control them. We can also do without them entirely. Unlike digital tools, which are all connected to the global network, out us without our consent, know us better than we know ourselves, never forget anything, have a complete overview and share this with the world without our intervention – we don't even know with whom.

We are already increasingly controlled and manipulated, mostly without even noticing. We are already heavily dependent on electronic devices; you could even call it an addiction. To test your level of addiction, why not try a digital detox for a week: no mobile phone, no tablet, no computer, just live an analogue life! Is that possible?

It's probably too late to turn back the clock: we're already caught in the trap of the big data giants. We are all Microsoft or Apple customers, and certainly Google customers. They, the most powerful corporations in the world, own the data, not us, and they sell it mercilessly at the best price. The path to the trap was a flower-lined avenue of beautiful promises and conveniences, games and apps that we can no longer imagine living without. It was paved with comfort, access, free masterclasses and cool, freely available apps. Who can resist that?. Download Article about digitalisation.
