FOMO in the digital search for meaning?

08.06.2026

As visibility shifts from the real world to the digital world – and with it, a vastly expanded horizon – the question arises: How is my marketing changing? How can I convince people of my value and my services or products? What will lead to success in the future? On the one hand, it has become much easier – and cheaper – to reach a target audience worldwide. On the other hand, it has become easier and cheaper for everyone to be visible, so that we are literally flooded with messages from companies that see us as their target audience. That’s why spam filters are in high demand – as are programs that block ads.

So it’s high time we refocused on what really matters. And that has changed very little. Let’s refocus on the meta-values:

  • Navigating change
  • Respect for people
  • Trust and community
  • Honesty
  • Simplicity
  • Sensitivity
  • Avoiding disasters
  • Having fun
  • Personal responsibility

Meta-values are values that, based on extensive research, apply to all people, regardless of gender, age, culture, or status. They are the values we should uphold if we want to be successful and happy. On the one hand, they are needs we want to fulfill as a company and as individuals; on the other hand, they are “questions of style”: How do we want to treat people – and how do we want to be treated? These values apply in both the digital and analog spheres.
