Coaching at choice does not use any pre-fabricated general solutions. Content and progress are
determined in mutual consultation, whereby the basis for the co-operation between client and advisor is
made up of mutual trust, being open to change and accepting support from outside. The aim is to achieve real
progress with visible results, ranging from robust private relationships, through recognised leadership qualities
to an improved working climate.
After analysing the initial situation, possible plans of action are worked out and the various options reviewed.
Then targets are set and ways determined how to reach them, while analysing restricting conditions and deciding which
of them are fixed and which conditions can be or must be modified.
Coaching by choice accompanies and simultaneously supports the implementation of its results. It strengthens motivation
and the will to perform. It encourages critical reflection. It aids concentration on the chosen way of action and focussing
upon the targets. The choice coach provides continuous feedback to sharpen the awareness of the client’s own actions and the
perception of his or her abilities.
Coaching by choice imposes no targets on the client and moreover does not support any unrealistic targets.
It does not encourage, nor in any way induce recklessness, egocentricity or arrogance. The choice coach aims
always for sustainable results and makes sure that neither selected targets, nor the measures for reaching them,
are damaging in any way for the clients or their environments.
Coaching by choice is organised flexibly, according to need. It can consist of only one session, for instance in
the form of a discussion to clear up uncertainties prior to a change of job; it might consist of, say, a set of five
meetings to arrive at a detailed career situation definition, of a group workshop lasting several days to improve
teamwork, or of a series of regular meetings over a period of between 3 and 12 months, targeting a systematic
improvement of leadership abilities. Direct individual or group meetings will be enhanced by telephone calls or
e-mail exchanges.
